Children's Stories, Literature and Books

The genre of children's literature is the only field of literature that is defined by its readership as opposed to by its contents. Children's literature is categorized simply as literature that is read by children. Historically, this has caused problems in accurately determining the place of the genre in the landscape of literature. Children's literature is read and enjoyed by people who are not kids, and many works of great distinction are now considered children's books, although they were never intended to be -- Defoe's 'Robinson Crusoe', Twain's "Huckleberry Finn". It has only been recently that literature specifically written for children has been given significant critical attention.
