Twentieth Century Architecture

20th century architecture, functionalism or the international style architecture. Contemporary architecture, also known as Functionalism or the International Style, holds as its primary tenement the maxim that "less is more." As the name Functionalism indicates, the primary characteristic of this style is simplicity. The style is most often displayed in small houses with undecorated walls and large areas of glass set in metal frames. The primary practitioners of the International Style, among them Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier, and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, are some of the most noted architects of the 20th century. Among their less traditional counterparts in the 20th century include the famous American Frank Lloyd Wright. The links included herein relate specifically to architecture in the 20th century.
