Being a Big Man and making a business out it.

Some men are born big, some attain bigness, and others have bigness thrust upon them. Yes, a corny beginning, but perhaps a valid one, as I hope to demonstrate.

I’ve been a big guy all my life. It’s meant that on occasion I’ve received a little more attention than I wanted, but in the main I wouldn’t swap. Sure it’s been difficult to get clothes without elasticised waists, and you have to be weary of those king sized white Y-fronts (those things can kill passion at a hundred steps), but in a way there are so many things that make up for it. I never go unnoticed at the bar. When there is an altercation, people feel more secure when I’m around. And rather surprisingly people are more likely to listen to you. What being big has anything to do with having something interesting to say is far beyond me, but it seems to be the case for me.

The only area that has truly annoyed me over the years has been clothing. For years there was nothing fashionable in my size. I can’t even get a pair of trainers in my local shopping centre. Although things have got better recently, I still felt that, "I’m being ripped off here" feeling. Do those extra inches of cloth really need to be so expensive?

Well I’ve decided to do something about it. I’m an IT professional so together with my business partner we’re opening a new ecommerce shop in the UK called www.bigmanstuff.com. It will cater for the Big and Tall man that wants to appear smart and casual. Basically, I’m customer number one!

This has opened another unexpected door. Modelling! If you’re a big man you will know all to well that you spend most of your time online looking at barely XL sized guys in the shirts you are looking to get for yourself. Now that’s ok if you are just over XL, but if you are 4XL or 5XL like me, well this shirt can look a little bit different on you. So, I’m about to be the model in all our pictures. From IT professional, to clothing store owner, to model, all in the space of a couple of months.

I think that in this world, the people with passion always make the best role models. I believe that in this case, buying big man clothing from a big man is a step forward. It’s a fascinating time, with the store about to open in a few weeks.

If you are interested in how things have panned out. Or if you just want to see a rather unusual fashion model, pop in and see me at www.bigmanstuff.com. I should be there in my full glory before the end of August 06.
