Ian StevensI am currently in 10th grade and I began writing poetry back in 2005. My first poem was Broken Into Pieces and after that I came to write many more poems. I have over 100 poems currently (not all of them are posted on this site) and I am writing more to come. Most of my poems deal with pure emotion or other widespread topics: love and hate, life and death, pain and sorrow. Some of them are inspired by true events such as being betrayed by a loved one, abandoned by friends, broken up with that one love, cast down from society, etc. Other poems are simply to explore the different doors there are in the vast world of poetry. ----- When I write poems I explore the different ways to express what I want to say. I have experimented with radically different formats, rhyme schemes (sometimes not rhyming at all), unusual visual representations, and specific word choice to try to express a certain feeling, story, or picture in my head. In many of my poems I try to fully express such things as hatred, sadness, emptiness, or other darker emotions. I try to write in such a way that the reader can actually feel the emotion to it's fullest extent or see the story and picture lurking in my head. ----- This being said I want my readers to understand that, though at times I may write a poem simply because I feel a certain emotion and I just need some way to express it, my ultimate goal in writing is to create poetry that tells exactly what I want it to tell. If it were possible I would love to write 'the perfect poem', but it isn't. I can only strive towards this ultimate truth of poetry by small steps. I've posted many, many poems so far that are very dark in tone and believe that with them all together, I can move onto lighter poems. I most likely will begin writing more love poems and happy poems than before, simply because I have ventured and explored the darker hallways of poetry quite thoroughly. I will still ,at times, write dark poems, but for the most part my readers can expect a radical change in the topics and tone of future poems. ----- I have been getting a lot of comments about wanting to email me or get permission to use some of my poems for band lyrics and so for all of you who would like to email me, my email is at: ian@betelgeuse.us ----- I hope that people will enjoy my writing and I appreciate any comments they have to offer!Interests and Hobbies: I really enjoy art in all forms. I love drawing, painting, and sketching. I also write stories and poems in my spare time, read great novels, work on a little programming on the computer, play many sports and other various activities. I know martial arts - specifically ninjitsu and jijitsu, but I am proficient in other techniques like judo, tae-kwon-do, and karate. I am a backup drummer and lead vocalist in a Christian metal-core band called Remnant of Shadows and write most of the lyrics and sheet music for it. I also come up with most of the logos for our band as well. I mess around with guitar a bit so I know a little bit of how to play the electric guitar but not very much. I am currently single and waiting for the right girl to come along. Homepage: http://www.betelgeuse.us/~ian |
