Melinda Powelson


My professional background includes experience as a journalist and author. In 1992, I co-authored The Recycler's Manual for Business, Industry and Government, published by Van Nostrand Reinhold. I have been a staff reporter for The Port Townsend Leader, The San Diego Reader, and an editorial assistant at The Tacoma News Tribune.

Since 1997, when I my son, Alex, I have been a freelance writer. I have written articles for several local papers and websites on topics including working women, small business, environmental issues, and most recently on privacy legislation.

Interests and Hobbies:
I'm a mother of 2 children, ages nine and two. My son, Alex, has dyslexia, and learning about how to help him overcome his learning disability has become a significant intellectual pursuit. I love to read -- particularly nonfiction. I am currently reading a biography of Crazy Horse. for a bookclub I participate in. I am an avid skiier and Little League baseball enthusiast.
