Dan GiffordI have a scientific and technical background, with a degree in Chemistry from the University of Leicester.This lead to a career in higher education producing printed and online distance learning materials. My last employer was De Montfort University in Leicester where I edited and designed material for a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including environmental, pharmaceutical and criminal justice subjects. However, I am now a professional magician! Magic had always been a hobby, and in 2004 I took the plunge and started to earn a living performing magic. I am a member of Leicester Magic Circle and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. I perform close-up magic and a cabaret act at all kinds of events, such as private parties, weddings and corporate events. I also work with a group of magicians called Headfry to put on public shows at clubs and theatres. I use my technical writing and design skills to maintain a blog and personal website which I use to promote myself as a magical entertainer. Through the maintenance of these websites I have developed skills in online promotion and search engine optimisation.
I have been interested in magic since I was a child, looking forward to the Paul Daniels Magic Show every Saturday night. When I was a teenager, I became interested in playing poker and techniques used for cheating. This developed further into an interest in close-up card magic and close-up magic in general. I've been into mountain biking for years and although I still cycle as much as I can, I don't get to go off-road as often as I'd like these days. I also enjoy reading sci-fi and fantasy novels, and watching films. |
