![]() Richard HelfantRichard Helfant, a Harvard-trained cardiologist, pioneered the development of cardiac electrophysiology and nuclear cardiology. He built the Philadelphia Heart Institute, one of the first medical centers in the U.S. to use balloon angioplasty and calcium channel-blocking drugs. Dr. Helfant is the former Chair of Cardiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, former Professor of Medicine at UCLA and UC Irvine, and author of Women, Take Heart (Grosset/Putnam, 1992). Dr. Helfant has been widely published in the medical and scientific fields, and has lectured around the world. His most recent book is entitled Courageous Confrontations: Lives Transformed by Life-Threatening Illness (Sentient Publications, 2005).Interests and Hobbies: I love reading (everything from spiritual books to fiction), working out, playing tennis (I'm still an A level player), hiking, and all sorts of music, from classical to Sinatra to Jazz (not into rap though).
