Matt Cantrell

I majored in English at a local community college, Gainesville College, from 1996 to 1999. My interests are so varied and ponderous that I never quite finished my degree even though I have more than enough credits to do so. In 1998, I won Gainesville College's literary contest for short story with the title Broken Oar Blues. Also in 1998 I was voted in as the Vice President of the English Club, and I assisted in editing our annual literary magazine The Chestatee Review in both 1998 and '99. I've written fiction pretty much all of my life, but I've never done anything with it outside college. At present, my goal is to make a name for myself by putting out a number of short stories.

Interests and Hobbies:
1) I write. Writing was the father of all my loftier pursuits and my first love. I write at least one scene a day and try to completely revise something every six to eight weeks.

2) I read. Obviously an aspiring writer who doesn't read is nothing more than a dreamer. I read at least one book a month. Most recently, I've been on a James Rollins kick.

3) I play the guitar (self-taught). Sometimes I write my own songs, and when I'm feeling particularly frisky, I'll break out the recording studio software and make something really impressive. (This is more of a stress-reliever and time-killer than anything else).
