Don Salvatore

I grew up in a coastal town just south of Boston. As a child, my playground was a salt marsh. I swam in the river, hiked on the marsh and fished in the creek. So it is no surprise that I wanted to be a marine biologist when I grew up. With that goal in mind, I studied biology in college. However, I soon realized that research science was not for me. What I really enjoyed was science education - taking the research of others and using it to help people understand how the world works. For the past 30 years, I have been a science educator at the Museum of Science in Boston. I have been blessed with the opportunity to teach programs in all of the sciences - physics, chemistry, geology, meteorology, biology, biotechnology and - my favorite - natural history. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to introduce people to the wonders of the natural world, to demonstrate that even the most mundane, seemingly boring living entity has an incredible tale to tell. I have tried to combine my love for natural history and biology in these stories. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

Interests and Hobbies:
I am an avid naturalist, particularly interested in insects and marine invertebrates. I am also a longtime sea kayaker and a beginner sailor.
