Helen Byrne

I spent 25 years working at a major UK university, starting out as a linguist secretary for a small research group focusing on new scientific and technological developments in marine-related subjects. The role evolved into providing administrative support for a series of joint university-industry collaborative research programmes, initially relating to offshore technologies and involving much contact with the major offshore oil and gas exploration companies. Over more recent years, the range of subjects covered became extensive and our group acted as project managers for a host of EU-funded research programmes, involving a number of UK universities together with collaborators in several European countries. I acted as administrator and PA to the Director and was responsible for co-ordinating all meetings, conferences, workshops, report planning and ensuring all deadlines for report submissions were met. Subsequently I chose to follow my career goal and became a Virtual Assistant, launching my own business, Virtualoso, in October 2007. I now offer a range of Office Support Services to independent clients.

Interests and Hobbies:
My personal interests include making time for my family, whether it be at home or out and about. I love walking in the countryside and taking pic-nics. I'm involved in my local PTA and enjoy planning and arranging events such as summer fairs and Christmas Parties etc. I've recently re-discovered books! I hadn't read for years which I guess was due to having a young family and therefore no me time! Favourite author of the moment is Colin Bateman. I guess most of my time these days is spent in front of the laptop, learning new skills for my new business and also writing articles and press releases to promote my website. There's so much information out there - and I can't get enough of it!
