Jackie Hamilton

Despite wanting to write murder-mystery books anonymously in a pink house in the Florida Keys, I ended up working for 12 1/2 years as an I.T. Traffic Manager. Basically, I made sure 25 programmers did their jobs with no technical certifications myself. I've had many part time jobs throughout the years that also had nothing to do with my ultimate dreams; courier for a laboratory, data entry clerk for a telephone survey company, free-gift-bag-putter-together for a large French perfume and makeup corporation, researcher for a class reunion company, just to name a few. The closest I came to working anywhere near words was when I was in college and proofread depositions for a law firm for one dollar a page. Last year, I was given the opportunity to write 100-word movie reviews for a local newspaper and have enjoyed it thoroughly. My editor has now given me the additional responsibility of attending and reviewing community plays in our county, increasing my words per review to 500. Because I quit my I.T. Manager position, married a stranger and ran out of luck, I now work at a colorful Cajun restaurant and am having a surprisingly good time. I continue to write and hope one day people besides my mother will find it humorous, interesting and even informative.

Interests and Hobbies:
When I was a kid, I spent 7 years on the west coast of Africa in Sierra Leone, a friendly place that was the most dangerous country in the world for 10 years straight. A full 6 degrees above the equator made the climate near perfect, and I spent much of those years literally sitting in a calabash tree just outside my bedroom window eating limes and mangos and reading books my mother purchased from a British bookstore. Because of that, Enid Blyton remains one of my favorite childrens' author of all time, as well as C.S. Lewis.

I love to read and write and proofread and edit and review. I love the smell of books and the feel of new pages and old pages. I love how books look in a bookcase and how they look stacked on the floor.

Besides books, I have always been an enthusiastic, if mediocre, athlete. I've played tennis for the past 4 years, have now turned 40 and plan on playing for 40 more years if I can. My best friend and I are now working on our own tennis leagues so we can live tennis as well as play it. I have captain'd 3 seasons of corporate volleyball and enjoyed every match. I have recently attempted to play soccer and was bed-ridden for 2 days.

My true search is to find a better life for my 3 teenagers, who are more fun than anyone I know. They are clever; they are charming; they are mine. One is a writer who reads every review I write. One is a singer and a journalist who will one day belt out a Kelly Clarkston song on American Idol, and sections of her journals will be gleefully printed in teen magazines. The oldest reads nothing but car magazines, V.I.N. numbers and UGA statistics, but he would be proud of any success of mine, even if it doesn't interest him.

My hobby, my interest, my intellectual pursuit is to continue writing and show my growing, heathen, sometimes ungrateful, mostly irresistible children that I can make them proud and give them the life I've always wanted them to have.

Short version: I'd be delighted to write on the subjects of missionaries, raising teenagers, single parenthood (I'm already writing a parenting book) and of course, recreational tennis in the south.
