The rising trend of astrology, palmistry, tarot card reading, etc. stresses on the fact that almost every individual in this world is keen on knowing what will happen in their future. Astrology can help in predicting the future to a great extent. Each individual is assigned a particular zodiac sign depending on his date of birth. If a person is born on 1st April, his zodiac sign will be Aries, while the zodiac sign of a person born on 1st August will be Leo. A large portion among us know the date range for their own zodiac sign, but they don't know how these zodiac signs are assigned for a particular month or particular period of the year. Basically, this is the period of the year when the sun is in that particular constellation. For instance, from 21st March to 19th April, the sun is in the Aries constellation, and hence the Zodiac sign of a person born in this period is Aries.

Date Ranges of Zodiac Signs
In simple words, zodiac date range is the time frame between the date when the sun enters the constellation and the date when it leaves. Zodiac date ranges start with the summer equinox, and Aries being the first sign of the zodiac, is assigned the period between 21st March and 19th April. It is followed by Taurus whose zodiac date ranges from 21st April to 20th May and so on...In order to make things simple, a table showing the date range, the constellation in which the Sun is present and assigned zodiac sign, is given below.

Zodiac Date Range Table
Date Range Constellation Zodiac Sign
21st March - 19th April Aries Aries
20th April - 20th May Taurus Taurus
21st May - 20th June Gemini Gemini
21st June - 22nd July Cancer Cancer
23rd July - 22nd August Leo Leo
23rd August - 22nd September Virgo Virgo
23rd September - 22nd October Libra Libra
23rd October - 21st November Scorpius Scorpio
22nd November - 21st December Sagittarius Sagittarius
22nd December - 19th January Capricornus Capricorn
20th January - 18th February Aquarius Aquarius
19th February - 20th March Pisces Pisces

Interestingly, the name of most of the zodiac signs is exactly similar to the constellation in which sun is present at that time, the only exceptions being Scorpio derived from the Scorpius constellation, and Capricorn derived from Capricornus constellation.

Born on the Cusp
The phrase 'born on the cusp' is used to refer to a person born either on the first or last day of the zodiac range for a particular zodiac sign. Such people normally tend to demonstrate traits of both the zodiac signs. For instance, a person born on 21st March will demonstrate the traits of Aries as well as Pisces, similarly a person born on 21st December will demonstrate mixed traits of Sagittarius and Capricorn.

Zodiac Date Changes
However, one should keep in mind that these zodiac date ranges are subject to change when the calendar cycle changes due to leap years. When we search for zodiac signs range we tend to come across conflicting dates which eventually leads to confusion. This is because while most of the astrologers prefer to stay with the originally fixed dates, some astrologers choose to use the dates for the current year. This, however, does not make any significant difference as the zodiac range at the time of your birth, which determines your true zodiac sign, is more important than the zodiac range for the current year.

If you are not sure about which constellation the sun was present in at the time of your birth, or if you are wondering which of the zodiac date ranges you fall in, the ephemeris table, which has the positions of stars and planets over their lifetime listed in it, is the easiest way to find your true zodiac. In the era of computers, you don't have to go through the whole table either. Just filling your date of birth in the specially designed software will tell you your zodiac sign. When you can yourself determine zodiac signs, it becomes fairly easy for you to plan your week, month or year, and eventually make life much more convenient.
