You Realize You Haven't Even Thought About Them
It was a long time coming, the inspiration for this. And when I look back, I see years that have gone by so much faster than I thought.
A/N: She is me. I'll tell you that. Uh, I look back now, and see it as a youth crush. But back then, I was convinced that I loved him. And, well, I guess I did. I think today is the first day I hadn't thought about him, but I guess that's been said. 'You get into bed, and you realized that you didn't even think about them that day.' I thought today, how weird it would be with him there. Nothing would be how it should. Life is funny that way.
There was a time,
A long time ago,
Longer than most people realize,
When she thought that they might actually get together.
When a song was his and hers,
In her mind.
When she thought that he could get his act together,
And stop being a childish ass.
When she thought about him all the time.
When love songs were dedicated to him.
When he did the things he was told,
And was a good person.
Sure, he had been like this.
He use to be pure and wild and amazing,
but then something changed.
He changed.
Life changed.
She hated change.
And she wasn't the best person in the world either.
She had her faults,
She didn't do everything she was told.
But when it came down to it,
She was a pretty neat person.
A 'cool cat.
It was her.
She messed it up first,
Screwing with him and the girls he 'liked.'
She thought she was doing the right thing.
But she knows how annoying it is.
She cried that day.
Not in front of him, but close.
And then he started with another girl.
And then they were dating.
She was heartbroken, but said nothing.
Because that other girl was lucky.
And slowly, she forgot the way he use to make her feel.
She forgot him, and she forget everything about it.
She tried to lock it away, but couldn't.
She couldn't forget.
Neither could he.
And it started again.
Teasing.
But she no longer cared.
They sat next to each other after Christmas.
And she would let him copy,
Because she felt bad for him.
Because she still wanted to tell him how she felt.
But she didn't.
And then it was over.
Something snapped.
She met someone that would make her happy.
But she wasn't happy.
It would break this one guy in half.
She didn't say anything.
In the end, he went away.
She was no longer plagued with answer to questions.
The once great locks of hair she had in her mind, disburse.
And she slowly fell in love with someone she didn't need to try hard with.
Because he had been keeping her.
She was happy now.
There was a time,
A long time ago,

When she thought that they might actually get together.
When a song was his and hers,
In her mind.
But now when she plays it,
Only memories are left.
