You Never Even Said Goodbye

What happens when a child loses her Daddy....
You Never Even Said Goodbye
Keeping the pain
In a heart that’s full
Forty odd years have
Come and gone
And I still want to cry
Daddy you never even said goodbye.

A shy, girl of ten
Pigtails hanging down
A face of woe and fear
Daddy you never even said goodbye.

Journey home from school
Daddy where are you?
Dark journey to the cemetery
And a little girl’s moan
Daddy you never even said goodbye.

I’m grown now
And there’s no reason to cry
But whenever I think of it
What it was like
How much it pierced my heart
Like a spike
I still hear those
Haunted cries
Daddy you never even said goodbye.
