It’s tough and the pain is almost unbearable. But I’ve never wanted something this bad. I need to keep moving forward. Even if the pain I feel brings me to my knees every step I take. I will get back up and bear the pain over and over and over again. Sweat dripped down his face and he began to regain his footing. Gravel slid from under his unsteady stance and he braced himself again for the pain that was sure to come. One step forward and he hissed as pain assaulted him. He again was brought to his knees his back exploding in pain. It was too much to bear he thought. But he would bear more if he could. He would bear the pain of a thousand other men if possible just to get to what he sought.
He smiled as he remembered what lay at the top of the hill. What men would torture and kill for. He was to have without reservation. He took in deep breathes and began to rise. Slowly at first, remembering the pain that would bring him back to his knees. He stood and he felt as if he could do anything. Rise over any obstacle. Bring any enemy to his knees. He took one step forward and felt the strong urge to fall to his knees. Instead he took another step and then another and soon he was climbing up the slightly slanted hill. The sun beat down on his back in powerful waves of heat.
With sweat stinging his eyes and pain beating in his back he screamed her name "Ivy"! He forgot the pain, he forgot the sun beating on his back, he forgot all that was and began to run up the hill. He ran and ran and ran with all that was inside of him. Then he was there at the top of the hill panting for breath. The sun was suddenly blocked and he looked up. She stood in front of him smiling her arms open in a welcoming embrace. "You came."
