Smoothies originated from Brazil, and became a popular selling pureed fruit drink in the 1930s in America. The term 'smoothie' was used by all the books, magazines and newspapers, as this drink is made in a blender and chilled. Don't confuse them with milk shakes, even though both are made of milk products, but unlike milkshakes, they don't contain ice cream. Yogurt is popularly known and eaten for its many health benefits, and when added with fruit and nuts, it just increases its health factor. Easy to make, the following yogurt smoothie recipes are power packed with nutrition and health.

Yogurt Smoothie Recipes

Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Fresh or frozen strawberries, 10 ounces
  • Low fat plain yogurt, ¾ cup
  • Milk, 1 cup
  • Sugar, ½ tsp
  • Ice cubes, 3 cups
  • Whipped cream, 2 tbsp
Put all the ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour into tall glasses and spoon over some whipped cream.

Fruit Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Banana, 1 medium-sized
  • Apple, 1 medium-sized
  • Blueberries, 1 cup
  • Orange juice, 1 cup
  • Plain yogurt, 1½ cup
  • Crushed almond, 5-7
Blend all ingredients in a blender, until smooth. Add water or ice cubes to get the desired consistency. Pour in a glass, top it with crushed almonds and sip it up!

Banana Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Fresh or frozen bananas, 1 cup
  • Milk, ½ cup
  • Full fat yogurt, ½ cup
  • Raisins, 1 tsp
In a blender, on medium speed, blend yogurt and milk first, add banana and raisins, and beat until smooth and creamy. Pour in a glass and top it up with some crushed ice cubes.

Greek Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Mangoes, ½ cup
  • Strawberries, ½ cup
  • Peaches, ½ cup
  • Ground flaxseed, 1 tbsp,
  • Milk, 1 cup
Reserve some fruit pieces for garnishing. Add all ingredients together in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Pour in a glass, garnish with fruit pieces and serve.

Frozen Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Chopped fresh mangoes, 2 tbsp
  • Chopped fresh pineapple, 2 tbsp
  • Shredded coconut, 2 tbsp
  • Plain frozen yogurt, 8 ounces
  • Skimmed milk, ½ cup
  • Ice cubes, 1 cup
Place all ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth and creamy. You can decrease or increase the quantity of the ice cubes as per your choice.

Low Fat Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Fat free, flavored or unflavored yogurt, 1 cup
  • Fat free skim milk, 2 cups
  • Ice cubes, 1 cup
  • Hazelnut syrup, 1 tbsp
  • Fresh blueberries, ½ cup
Process all ingredients in a blender, until smooth. Add milk and ice cubes as per your choice of consistency.

Fruit and Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Small banana, 1
  • Blueberries, ½ cup
  • Mangoes, ½ cup
  • Raspberries, ½ cup
  • Yogurt, 1 cup
  • Ice cubes, 2 cups
Process all ingredients in a blender until smooth and serve.

Non Yogurt Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients
  • Soy milk, ½ cup
  • Banana, 1
  • Strawberries, ½ cup
  • Ice cubes, ½ cup
  • Honey (optional), 1 tbsp
Blend all ingredients in a blender, until smooth and creamy. If you want your smoothie to be sweeter, add some honey or strawberries in it.

There are many different fruits one can add to make your own special yogurt smoothie recipe. For all the health conscious people, simply substituting plain yogurt with low or no fat yogurt, or soy milk will give one the health results, they so desire.
