There are some basic guidelines that beginners should follow during yoga:

Yoga Guidelines for Beginners
Beginners in yoga exercises should keep the following points in mind.
  • Always perform any yoga asana on an empty stomach.
  • Yoga asanas should not be performed on bare floor. Use specially designed yoga supplies such as yoga mats, which are readily available in most department stores and malls.
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothing while performing yoga asanas.
  • Yoga should be done at a slow pace and all body movements should be done smoothly. Those who are used to fast and high-intensity aerobic sessions should keep this point in mind.
  • One should concentrate entirely on the asana being performed. Focus on it and avoid any distractions.
  • Above all, beginners should not push themselves beyond their capacity. If you can't stretch your body or your muscles beyond a point, don't worry. Yoga is a slow and continuous process, not a one-time activity.
The above-described yoga positions for beginners are a very good way of staying fit, healthy, and experiencing inner peace. Have a healthy life!
