Basic Yoga Poses for Kids

These are some easy yoga poses for kids. To start with these yoga exercises for beginners, it is best to make sure that the exercises are done on an empty stomach. The position should be held for about a minute or so. You can also ask the child to keep his eyes closed and take deep breaths. Five repetitions are sufficient for each pose.

Tree Pose: The tree pose is the simplest of all yoga poses for kids. All that the child needs to do is stand straight, take a deep breath and fold one of his legs and place it against his other knee. At the same time, he needs to lift his arms up and join them without bending his elbows. Let the child hold the position and then switch the leg.

Cat Pose: This is a favorite yoga pose among kids. The child has to get down on his fours on a yoga mat and keep the back straight. Then the child inhales and curves his back, just like a cat does. If you want to add some fun, you can ask the child to mimic a cat's meow.

Cobra Pose: A cobra pose is also relatively easy. The child is supposed to lie down face first on a mat and place his hands next to his chest. Then, he is made to take a deep breath and slowly lift his chest up, till his arms are straight. Make sure that the child doesn't put too much pressure on his back. The full cobra pose requires the child to lift his legs up and touch the head, at the same time when the chest is in the air.

Partner Yoga Poses for Kids

These are some yoga poses for kids that need to be done by two people. If your child has a sibling then this is the best way to get the two engaged in a constructive fun filled activity.

Reach out and Stretch: This pose requires the children to sit facing each other with their legs apart. Make sure that their feet touch, ask them to lean forward and hold each other's hands. Once they get to the stage where they can hold each other's hands, you can ask them to try to raise their legs at the same time, while their feet still touch.

Hold and Lift: This is another fun partner yoga pose for kids. The two children have to stand against each other with their backs touching. Make them interlock their arms and ask them to try to lift each other off the ground gently. This one requires supervision, to prevent the naughty ones from hurting each other.

Fun Yoga Poses for Kids

Wheel Pose: For this pose make the child lie down on his back and make him gently lift his body up. Ask the child to hold the pose, initially it is best that you support the child's back with your palm. Children love trying this pose the most.

In this pose, the child is again asked to lie down on his back and place his hands on his waist and gently lift his legs over his head.

Butterfly Pose: This is another hot favorite pose among kids. In this pose the kids are asked to sit cross-legged and they are then asked to place their hands on the knees. The kids then move their knees in the same way a butterfly would flap it's wings.
