How to Get Rid of Yellow Toenails?
One of the age-old home remedies for yellow toenails has been the use of tea tree oil. It is a natural antiseptic and fungicide thus, potent agent to fight the fungus that has caused the yellow discoloration of the nails. Mix this oil with a few drops of olive oil and treat the affected part. You may also use the tea tree oil in combination with lavender oil. This oil helps in preventing skin irritation.
Get 2 cups of it and mix it with 2 cups of warm water. Stir well and soak your toes for 15 minutes. Do it around three times a day and repeat it until the condition improves. Do not forget to dry the feet thoroughly after having soaked them.
Yellow toenails can be treated with the help of a paste made of baking soda and lemon juice in the morning and before bed time. It is best if you use this method in conjunction with the tea tree oil. For instance, if you are applying the tea tree oil in the morning, then it would be better to use the paste at night.
Then comes Listerine as another home remedy. Simply let your toes get soaked in it, once in the morning and once at night. Needless to say, dry up thoroughly.
Get some Juniper berries, crush them and mix them into a bucket of warm water. Soak your feet for about 10 - 15 minutes. Another method that works as, toenail fungus treatment, is using a mix of Oregano essential oil (antiseptic, antibacterial, anti parasitical, antiviral, analgesic and anti fungal in nature) with a teaspoon of olive oil. Use this method daily, but it is recommended not to extend the use beyond three weeks.
You must be aware of Alpha Hydroxy Acid creams. Even this works to manage yellow toenails. This cream helps in taking care of the rough scaly skin around the infected toenails, which otherwise, play host to growing nail fungus. Simply lather the affected part with the cream before you retire to bed.
Apart from following all such techniques, it is equally important that you maintain good personal hygiene. Keep your feet neat and clean and change your socks daily and whenever they get sweaty due to hot whether or exercise. In the above tips, I have mentioned repeatedly to keep your feet dry after having them soaked in certain solutions. The importance of keeping them dry is to discourage the fungus from thriving and worsen the infection. Otherwise, a moist and warm environment provides an ideal atmosphere for the growth of these microorganisms.
To close, letting the feet breath by wearing sandals, as often as possible, is a natural treatment for yellow toenails. Using a good quality foot powder also helps in preventing perspiration and thus, hastening the healing period.
