Yearbook Layout Designs

#1: Starting off with the cover, be creative in it but do not overdo it. Stick to the contemporary feel as much as possible. Do not be too futuristic or too outdated. You can make a collage or stick a photograph or may be ask a student who can paint and draw well for the cover. Another thing you can do is cut out a square or a circle from the cover, as if it's a window. Stick a picture on the next page which can be seen through that window. This is perhaps the easiest. Then the inside pages can be according to the arena to which the page is dedicated. For example, if the page is about the activities of various clubs, well, then have the design according to that.

Let's say you want to put film club activities. An outline of a reel to the page with pictures of members will be great. Then the class pictures qualify for a considerable space. However, it is not always possible to accommodate all the class pictures. Here what can be done is after laying out your class picture if you feel that this is inadequate, see if you can have photographs of students holding signs of page numbers. It will be a very innovative idea instead of the oh-so-boring run of the mill page numbering style. Well, accordingly you can have all the pages with a distinct border which is attractive.

#2: Look at the project as if it is a construction project. Sounds technical? Not to worry! It is not as bad as it sounds! The first step therefore, will be to come up with a floor plan, that is the theme in our yearbook jargon. After you decide upon a floor plan or theme, let's say, a sky scraper, assign tasks and duties, decide deadlines, shortlist what is going to be included, arrange a photography schedule, work on enhancing the theme and so on. Then finally write, edit and make the layout. Then just as a sky scraper does not look out of proportion, your yearbook should be like that. How you come up with these following things are important:
  • Cover and last page
  • Title page
  • Centerspread
  • Introduction
  • The first introductory page with mission and class statement (very important)
  • Closing page
Basically the layout totally depends on the theme, if any.

#3: Have a totally whacky theme and accordingly have a lay out. It could be the environment, wildlife, sports and so on. Have the borders and pages accordingly, to give your yearbook a unique appearance. Be innovative with the colors and type of paper you use. To add a special touch, have some blank page where the students or teachers can express their feelings or have a dedicated page to someone or something.

#4: Have the pages according to a theme, or, design the pages in a chronological order starting from the beginning of the year and going on to the end. Now in this case, lay the page in relation with the even or the section you are dealing with. This will save you time and energy from racking your brains.

#5: Last, but not the least, is the traditional layout, with sections. Each grade will be allotted one section and that class works on that particular section. Be creative and cover the same topics with different angles. There you are, old bottle, but a new wine! Yes, it might seem like that, still, if it can make your yearbook look and give something different each year, why not?

Apart from this you can also seek help on the Internet as well as those who are professionals in page layouts and corel draw and stuff. You yourself can set the pages on the computer if you know how to use the pagination software, which will be even better!

There you are! So are you all set for the yearbook? Go on, bring out your creative caps and have a real go!
