When we got to the beach, Seth instantly ran to the water.
"Hey, wait up!" Maria called after him.
I sat down 10 feet away from the water and watched Seth and Maria and other people have fun. I always thought I was not meant to be in this world so I stay away. Just so, I do not hurt anyone. In addition, I don’t want to make anyone mad. I am just a loner. The only reason I have friends is that I was born with a certain "charm" or "luck". All I know is…To speak when spoken to, talk loud and clear. Get good grades. Also, pay my taxes when I’m older. How lame. I fear disappointment and failure. I don’t want to live this life for nothing. Maria and Seth had their feet in the water. They are such good friends. I wish I could be more social.
"Eric! Come over here!" Seth yelled.
"I’m like 10 feet away from you; you don’t have to yell…" I muttered.
"Well you suggested we come here and you’re not going to enjoy it?" he said.
"It’s ok; I’m only here to make sure you two stay safe." (I thought you stole the idea...)
"Ok, suit yourself."
Well this is my chance to be more social…well here it goes. I took off my shoes and sat next to Maria.
"How do you like the water" I asked her.
"It’s great."
So, it was just the three of us. Maria in the middle, me to her right, and Seth to her left.
(My phone began ringing.)
" Be right back guys." I said as I got up and answered my phone, it was some random number.
"Hello? This is a call for a young man named Eric Shizuko." A woman said.
"Yes, you are speaking to him. May I ask who is calling?"
"They’re has been a report that your legal guardian, Lillian Rogers, has just died in a car accident. I am very sorry for your loss."
"What? This cannot be happening. What kind of sick joke is this?"
"This is not a joke. We need you to come to your house right now. I work for the LAPD."
"I will be right there." I said.
"What happened?" Maria asked. I immediately began crying and dropped my phone into the sand.
"Are you okay?" Seth asked.
"My aunt just died…" I said.
"What? Oh no." Maria said.
"But she was your guardian. Where are you going to live now?" Seth asked.
I didn’t have time to talk. I picked up my phone, grabbed my shoes, and started running for home.
