Writing is embodying form to ideas, that arise in your mind. This article talks about writing process steps, which will help you in putting your ideas on paper and refining them.

Creative Writing Process Steps
There are various forms of writing which serve various purposes. The writing process steps which I talk about here are especially related to creative writing. Creative writing includes everything from writing short stories to writing essays, novels and even blogs. The writing process steps which I talk about here are generic in the sense that they can be applied to any type of creative writing. Let us look closely at each of the steps in the writing process.
Brainstorming and Research
Out of all the writing process steps, brainstorming and research is the most important step. Before writing, you must read a lot, to enrich your thoughts, vocabulary and writing style. It's the solid base on which your writing stands. Think about what exactly you intend to write. If you are decided on a topic, then start researching about the various details associated with it. If it's a debate topic like 'Communism Vs Capitalism', then read about both sides of the debate. Think about the point of difference between the two theories. Try to go as deep as possible in your research.
If you intend to write pure fiction like a short story or a novel, then first build a storyline and later a book outline that will guide your further writing. This brainstorming and researching phase is the most basic and most crucial of all writing process steps.
Writing the First Draft
Based on your ideas, research points and outline, you can now start the actual writing of the piece. In this phase, give a free rein to your thought and imagination. Express yourself as true a fashion as possible. This is the longest of all writing steps and the most enjoyable. As you write and keep on writing you discover what you are truly capable of. Keep writing aside for a while and take small breaks. Keep reading what you wrote, and work on making it more true to what you really feel.
Self Editing & Proofreading
Once you are done with the writing phase and satisfied with what you have written, it's time for proofreading and editing. Proofreading is correcting grammatical errors and spellings, if any. It's checking punctuation marks and sentence constructions. Editing is checking for conceptual, factual errors if any. Editing is polishing and chiseling your writing, to make it more clear and elegant. This self-editing involves a lot of rewriting as you make your word use more economical in some places or you feel like expanding some paragraphs. You can be your most honest critic and editor. If some parts of the writing need extensive rewriting, do it. The finished piece of writing is totally worth all the effort!
Polishing and Publishing
If you are planning to publish your work in a periodical or you intend to publish a book, then this is the last of the writing process steps, where you submit your manuscript to an editor and publisher. They may suggest some changes and polishing which must be incorporated. If they find your piece interesting and 'Salable', they'll publish it! This will be the fruition of all your writing efforts! You will be officially known as a published writer now! Some people even go for self publishing.
