Writing a Toast to the Bride and Groom
May thy life be long and happy,
Thy cares and sorrows few;
And the many friends around thee
Prove faithful, fond and true.
May your voyage through life be as happy and as free
As the dancing waves on the deep blue sea…

Making a wedding toast is an integral part of the wedding traditions. A wedding toast is a special moment, when you need the right words at the right time to convey your wishes to the bride and groom. If you are planning to make a special toast at the wedding, then it is always better to write down the words and prepare for the wedding speech in advance. Wedding speeches need not be boring and staid, but they shouldn’t be over-the-top and bizarre as well! Weddings are memorable for the people getting married as well as their family and friends - ensure that your wedding toast makes the day extra special instead of dampening the spirits. Make sure your wedding toast to the bride and groom is appropriate and does not violate the wedding etiquette. Here are some tips, which will help you while writing a toast to the bride and the groom:

Writing a Toast to the Bride and Groom

Some of the finest best-man toasts, maid-of-honor toasts and other wedding toasts are the ones that are genuine and simple. No flowery words, no fancy poetry - just plain honest emotions are the perfect answer to this situation. Now, as you start writing a toast to the bride and groom, here are a few dos and don’ts that you should keep in mind.
  • While writing a wedding toast, there should be an appropriate beginning, an interesting middle and the perfect ending to the wedding toast. So write your words and divide them accordingly.
  • Start with an announcement, which will help you grab everyone’s attention. Once the guests as well as the couple are all ears, introduce yourself and get started on your wedding toast.
  • For the middle, think of all the good memories that you remember about the couple. Try and jot all the fond and cherished incidents that will help you to elaborate about what you think about the couple. Think of the memories, which you would love sharing with the guests at the wedding.
  • Try and describe how exactly and why you think that the couple is truly made of each other and also think of all the adjectives (good ones) that you can think about for the couple and write these down as well.
  • If you are planning to make the toast funny, try and evaluate your material and think whether it would be appropriate for all the guests at the wedding including the grandparents and the children.
  • If you are from the groom’s side and don’t know much about the bride or vice versa, try and make sure that the speech is balanced and speaks of the couple and not just the bride or just the groom.
  • Now for the most difficult part - the ending has to be just right - conclude it with one powerful sentence - (a real tear-jerker for all those lovely ladies sniffing behind their hankies) - something which is simple and yet heart-warming. You can use a beautiful wedding quote to end your toast in the perfect way.
Write sincerely and be innovative. Don’t make your speech too long; keep it crisp and precise to ensure that all the guests are listening to you.
