Humans have forever been fascinated with snakes, the mysterious serpentine creatures. Snakes have immortally become associated with all things evil and those colligated with planning and plotting deadly crimes. Our movies have further itched their negative image in our minds, especially about the world's largest snakes. Some of the world's largest snake species have been portrayed as deadly, man-eating serpents, who are forever on the hunt for their next victim. However, reality is a far cry from that showed in movies. There can be some inspiration from real life instances, but not all the world's largest snake species are death machines. In the following paragraphs, we shall look at some information related to the largest snake ever found.

World's Largest Snake Species

The largest snake ever found on the planet earth is a question that has for long been hot topic of discussion. Most people would probably be terrified by the mere thought of a big snake. They are forever an object of hatred and myths. The following are few of the world's largest snake species, that do not deserve to be hated. In fact these creatures are to be treated with respect. Let's have a look at the biggest snake in the world.

The African Rock Python
The African rock python is a giant snake that is said to be the world's third largest snake. It can grow up to 25 feet in length and is the largest snake ever found on the continent of Africa. They can weigh up to 250 pounds and kill their prey by constriction. If it feeds on a large enough prey, it can stay without food for up to a year. They can eat a crocodile, gazelle, pig and birds. No wonder it does not need to eat anything more for a whole year!

Burmese Python
The Burmese python snakes are one of the world's largest snake species. They are usually kept as pets by people who think it is very cool to have large giants as pets. However, with time these pythons as pets are soon abandoned by their very owners who found them to be cool. Why? Cause they grow up to be really, really large giants that cannot be handled by a single individual. They can reach a size of up to 23 feet and more. They weigh about 200 pounds and have a girth that is as wide as a telephone pole. They have a poor eyesight and rely on the heat sensors along their jaws and chemical receptors on their tongue to find prey. They too kill by constriction and swallow their food whole. They feed on birds and small mammals. Constant demand by the pet industry and hunting them down for their skin to make bags and shoes, these Burmese pythons are unfortunately pushed into the list of endangered species.

Reticulated Python
Reticulated python is a huge, really huge snake that can grow up to 32 feet in length with an average size of about 18 feet. This snake is native to the Southeast Asia rainforests and is known for its eyes. What's so unique about its eyes? They have vertical pupils with bright orange pupils. These eyes are retic in nature and enable the giant snake to hunt even at night. There are very, very rare instances, where this snake has been reported to kill and eat humans.

Anaconda
Anacondas are one of my favorite of all the largest snakes in history. Anacondas are mysterious creatures and not much is known about their life cycle. They are natives of the deep jungles of the Amazon river basin. They are known to grow over 28 feet in length and have an average size of about 17 feet. Anaconda is considered to be the largest snake in the world when one takes into consideration their weight and thickness along with their size. Anaconda snakes as reported by various agencies, can grow so big and huge that they prefer living in water, just to support their weight.

These are some of the world's largest snake species. Most of the time, pythons prefer retreating away from human approach. It is only in very rare instances, when a poorly fed, hungry and irritated large snake attacks humans. They generally do not stalk humans as shown in movies. These large snakes live in deep jungles away from human habitat. If they ever come near human dwellings, it is wise to stay away from them and give them their space. These huge creatures mind their own business and need to be treated with respect. Remember, do not play around different types of snakes, big or small, as they are dangerous creatures. Look, but do not touch seems to be the snake motto. Hope you have found some information regarding the world's largest snake from the above paragraphs.
