World's Largest Ship - Why Was It Built?

With the world turning to the seas for their holidays, it comes as no surprise that shipbuilders seem to have entered a race to build the worlds largest ship ever. Leading this race is the mammoth ship called Freedom that is soon going to be built. The bare enormity of this ship is mind boggling in itself. The dimensions, if described, could cover at least three huge city blocks.

If one was to keep walking in a straight line on the ship, one could easily cover a little over a mile. This is a really long length for a ship, but this is reality. Sideways, the breadth of the ship is also quite massive. After the whole one mile walk, if one turns right and then keeps moving in a straight line, till the end of the ship, one will have covered the size of almost two full sized football fields. Taking the dimensions in consideration, Freedom barely seems to be the world's largest ship; in fact, it seems to actually be the first city on sea that is capable of floating around.

The number of people that can fit is more than the population of a few remote villages in America. The number of humans that can be housed permanently on the ship is almost close to a whopping 50000 people. These are not temporary visitors on the ship but actual residents who will live permanently aboard. Apart from these, there will be enough space for more than 16000 ship employees and crew members. Some of them will be permanent while the others will keep rotating. And finally, more than 20000 daily guests will also be able to fit on the ship so that they can have fun and enjoy the various attractions on the ship.

The life on the worlds largest ship will be more than ordinary. When the colossal project completes someday, more than 15000 homes will be housed on it with their permanent resident. There will be a whopping 4000 businesses also located aboard the ship which function like the usual offshore businesses. The ships sails around the world every two years and in the process visit every major port in the world. The residents will this way get an opportunity to see the world and they can move in their private yachts or helicopters if they want to see the land. All the entire strength of the ships crew, the 15000 people will prepare the ship for the daily such of guests and visitors who will come on vacations to enjoy sea life. They will get to shop from various duty free shops that are there and enjoy many of the planned attractions.

What worries naval experts and engineers at the moment is the sheer size of the ship and that whether it will manage to move nicely. While the current worlds Largest Ship is the Destiny which displaces almost 500,000 tons of water, this one will be able to displace close to 2.7 million tons of water.
