Are you a baby boomer who was affected by the recent economy shake up? You may have, or have had, a 401K and you probably saw a decrease in the amount of money you may have accumulated over the past years. Some specialists say that any gains made in a 401K over the past 5 years were completely lost.

This situation has made many who either already retired or were thinking about retiring soon, rethink what retirement really means to them. And some have even considered working at home part time.

Many of us have had to redefine "retirement". Retirement used to mean taking whatever was in your 401K, and any other money you would receive from your place of employment or "retirement package" and supplement that with your Social Security - and then NO MORE WORK.

Really think about this. Why would you not want to work? I mean, you can only "do nothing" for so long before you start to get really bored. Work is what gives our lives value, quality, and meaning. Maybe what we really should be doing is redefining the word "work". Maybe what we really want to retire from or "quit" is a job that has no meaning for us.

So, wouldn't the real key be to find work that you love? And don't we usually refer to this type of work as a "hobby" or "interest". But haven't you noticed you could literally do it for hours without even thinking of it as work? And this hobby or interest is usually what we plan on doing once we retire...right?

Check it out, go ahead...go to Google and do a search on any of your favorite things to do and someone somewhere is on the internet right now with their own website, product page, consulting forum, whatever - making money doing what you love.

The internet has opened up all kinds of opportunities for people to create an internet based business on just about anything. Internet Travel Agent, Internet Wedding Consultant, Internet Medical Advice - you name it, you can find it on the internet - and if you can't, then maybe it's time for you to create it!

Think about the things you enjoy doing, and let your imagination go wild. There are advice and how-to sites on just about anything imagineable - scrapbooking, gardening, cooking, fishing, golfing, WHATEVER! Seriously, if you think of yourself as an expert in something - do some research on how to get started on the internet - and you could be well on your way to doing what you love and making money doing it. Even if you don't consider yourself and expert - pick something you love and become one!

Yes, you'll have to work at it. Yes, it will take up your time and focus. And yes you will enjoy yourself! All while making money, providing a service to others and a better quality of life for yourself. Isn't this how life was meant to be anyway? Maybe there is a bright side to this whole recession thing...
