Words of Sympathy - Sympathy Messages Examples

Words are a powerful medium. Some simple words can pull a person out of the shadows of pain and sorrow. Though words are abstract, they are true healers especially when they come right from the heart. Though words cannot substitute for the loss they can provide comfort to saddened hearts. The sole reason behind writing words of sympathy is to make the bereaved realize that there are people who care about them. Words of sympathy can reduce at least a little bit of pain. Thus, words of sympathy are very essential.
Writing a sympathy message is very difficult because all the overwhelming feelings cannot be put into just one message. There are no set rules for writing words of sympathy but some etiquettes should be followed. Things to be kept in mind while writing sympathy messages are as follows.
- Write the sympathy message in simple words. Strictly avoid flowery language.
- Don't write a very long sympathy message. Write a sympathy note. More on what to say in a sympathy card.
- Avoid using unnecessarily formal language. If you know the person personally, address him or her with his/her first name.
- Write some of the good qualities of the deceased person. Choose the appropriate words for a sympathy card.
- A hand written sympathy message conveys a lot more then a typed one. So take the effort to write it personally. More on sympathy card messages.
