Will stalked down the deserted hallway, confused at his feelings. He hadn't really been out with a lot of girls. Not that he couldn't if he wanted to, but he always went out with girls he had to know really well and like even more. Resulting in a few. He was sure there were decent girls in this school, girls that didn't throw themselves at a nearing guy's feet and flirt with all they were worth. He liked this new girl, but he didn't really know her. And why was it, when he had touched her shoulder, a bolt of electricity had run from where they were connected to the rest of his body? And tiny fizzles had danced about his mind, and his heart had beaten a little bit faster and he had felt that little bit warmer? He shook himself. Whatever. Maybe he was getting a fever. But it would be nice to see her again, see what he felt. And maybe he could help with those little jagged lines of sadness.

By now, Will had reached the door to his homeroom. He pushed it open and regarded the half empty classroom coolly. Everyone else looked up and beamed at him. He loved his form. He smiled back and made his way toward the back of the room, giving hi fives and saying 'hey' as he went. He made his way to his corner, furthest from the door, where everyone knew he liked to be alone with his music. He pulled out a couple of sheets of hand written scribbles of songs and plugged some earphones on quickly. His workings, everyone called them. He put them down on the desk and attempted to read them, but it was hopeless. His thoughts kept drifting back to Lasara and Tina.

Tina had a date with Shark, finally! And she would want to talk about it to her girlfriends when she came into homeroom. They would all be caught up in it. He wouldn't be able to talk to her about his feelings for Lasara. Or what his sixth sense told him about her. Shark wasn't in his form and he didn't really have any other close friends in here. Then, suddenly, a party of kids rushed into the classroom and took their places. Everyone was silent. Every seat, except the one next to him on his table of two, was filled. He was quite isolated. Good.

The door was pushed open the second time and their form teacher and head of year, stalked in. Mr Persons.

"Morning, class!" he said brightly. There was a halfhearted reply.

"Morning..." Mr Persons smiled enthusiastically.

"Well, first things first, we have a new pupil here and I've decided to stick her in our class, worse luck for her." There was a ripple of un-amused laughter. "I would like to introduce Miss Lasara Danielle Fernando!" there was halfhearted clapping that seemed to turn into raucous applause as Lasara entered, courtesy of the male population of their form. Will sat up straight and looked at Lasara. A pang went through his chest as he caught sight of her. He ignored it. He heard her say a shy 'Hi' to the rest of the class as she looked at them abashedly. He saw Tina smile broadly at her which was a kind of relief for some reason.

"Now, now, where shall we sit the new young lady? Well, there's only the seat next to Will! Will, you don't mind do you? Just until we gat some new desks fixed? Well, that's that, then, isn't it? That's officially your new chair! Well, then, no more announcements. Get on with whatever you want, yeah? I've got some making to do." Lasara gaped at the teacher's choice of chair, than at his total coolness. This was going to be great! And embarrassing.

She made her way shyly to the chair the teacher meant. She sat down.

"Hey, again." She said calmly.

"Yo." Said Will, shortly. He didn't know what else to say. He had clammed up.

"Weird that we've met again so soon, huh?"

"Yeah." Lasara could have kicked herself. He clearly wasn't interested in friendship or anything more. What a fool she was! He was being so monosyllabic, so cold; she could have hit herself in frustration at herself.

"Sorry for intruding."

"S'ok."

"Hmm." Lasara decided to busy herself with something, and quick. She pulled out her diary or doodling jotter, whichever way you wanted to look at the holder of her most innermost secrets, doodles and drawings. She opened it to a clean page and began to write. The guy next to her had struck inspiration for a poem of some lyrics of a song. She sung a few words quietly under her breath before jotting it down. "When it's hot in here, and the lights are low, the party atmosphere, walks out that door. 'Cause I see you staring, I can feel your gaze, got lost in your eyes, but ain't gettin' fazed..." She trailed off, as her thoughts trickled to a stop. She couldn't seem to concentrate. She looked at Will. He was staring at her. She giggled nervously.

"What?" She asked.

"You sing really well. I mean, you've got a beautiful voice. You sound like an angel." He was unsure, and Lasara had thought he could never feel unsure. Not with his looks and popularity. She smiled at the 'angel'. He was so sweet!

"Thanks." She said, allowing herself only a light gentle, blush. "I used to sing all the time. Lead the Christmas carols, do a few numbers in my old school concert, all that little stuff. I don't anymore. In California, the talents of a half cast weren't appreciated." She laughed humorously and leaned over her work again. Her shiny curtain of thick hair spilled over one shoulder, creating a curtain and shielding her from Will.

Will was confused. She was so friendly to him even though he had seemed so cold. He wasn't trying to be that, it just seemed that way because of how tongue-tied he was around her - he couldn't explain it. He decided to force himself to normal no matter how hard it was. Cautiously, he swung her hair aside so he could see her face.

"How 'bout you sing for me sometime?" he asked easily, his hidden hand clutching at his jeans under the desk.

"Um, I don't think so." She replied easily, grinning. "My singing stays private." Will grinned back.

"Hey, no problem-o, you can sing to me in private. I don't really mind. As long as it isn't a guy catchin' trap..." She laughed and swung her hair behind her.

"You idiot." She said, the laughter in her voice making Will restrain from singing himself.

"Oh no, you didn't. You don't know what you just got yourself into, fool."

"I'm in trouble?"

"In a whole lot of it."

"With you?"

"Yeah."

"Then I'd better be extra careful."

"Uh huh."

"And stay away from you."

"Yes...uh, um...no. You a sharp girl, you know that?"

"Yeah. So people tell me." They both looked at each other, as if in a new light, and laughed with genuine mirth. "So what you writing?" She asked, glancing down at the papers in front of him.

"Believe it or not, music for your song." She cocked her head to the side and raised one eyebrow slightly.

"Oh, yeah?"

"Na, but I am writing music for something. I work the decks you know."

"We should meet and put our heads together some time."

"Hey, you know what, I'd actually like that."

"Good." They were both suddenly shy and looked down at their desk.

"Hey y'all." They both looked up simultaneously and saw Tina standing there.

"Hey, T."

"Um, hi." Tina smiled at them both and drew a chair up opposite them.

"So, Will, aren't you going to introduce me to your new friend?" she asked teasingly.

"I'm Lasara."

"Hey, that's a sweet name. How do you and Will know each other? I heard you came from California."

"I did. Me and Will don't know each other. We met this morning."

"Really?" Tina looked genuinely surprised. "But y'all look like you've known each other for years. You look kinda...I dunno connected." Lasara and Will looked at each other, embarrassed.

"We do, huh? Well you and Shark look kind connected." Laughed Will, running a hand over his papers to smooth them out unnecessarily.

"Oh ha ha, no boy, I'm serious, you look like old friends."

"Is that bad?" Asked Lasara cautiously. Tina looked at her seriously.

"With Will, that's the greatest achievement ever." Lasara smiled.

"I hardly..."

"No really. Girl, you obviously don't know him 'cause then you'd know how mysterious he is."

"Really?"

"Yah. There was this one time, where a girl asked him his name and he almost..."

"O.k., O.k., T, that's enough. Don't scare the girl. I regret that. You know I do."

"Ha! Any sane man would." Lasara looked at Tina and smiled.

"Men."

"Can't live with 'em..."

"...can't live without 'em." They laughed together like old friends.

"You know what, I've got this great new color of nail varnish, but it don't really suit me, since you're a bit fairer, maybe you'd like to..."

"Hey, I'd have to see it first."

"Come over to mine."

"Um, o.k., then."

"Tonight?"

"That'd be fine."

"Let's do it."

"Yeah." They looked at each other again and laughed one last time before Tina retreated to her seat.

"So, you and Tina friends now?"

"Um, I think so..."

"I feel left out. I thought you were coming to mine tonight."

"Yeah, sure I was going to go to some guys place on the first day of school on the first day I met him."

"I ain't just some guy."

"I know." Lasara looked away, a little embarrassed. what was all this about?
