Woodworking Projects for Kids
While choosing a project for kids, most of us seem to prefer working with glue, paper, cardboard and thermocol. Woodworking projects for kids seem to be a rarely explored area. But working with wood can be a very special experience for kids, because it gives them a feel of having done some 'real' work and the results can be very satisfying.

Popsicle Stick Letter Rack
It is amongst the woodworking plans for kids. Information about the materials required and procedure is presented below.
List of Material
- Packet of Popsicle sticks
- Glue (use good quality glue to prevent the sticks falling apart)
- Decorative ribbon
- Place the sticks side-by-side with their flat sides down so that their long edges touch each other.
- Make a surface by sticking these sticks edge-to-edge. The surface will look somewhat similar to a miniature fence.
- You need to make three such structures with twelve, six and three sticks each.
- Keep the structure with twelve sticks down. Stick the structure with three sticks at an angle of 90 degree, with the long edge touching the lower edge with curved ends.
- Take the remaining structure and stick it to the three-stick structure such that it is parallel above the twelve-stick surface.
- Make two stacks of 12 sticks by gluing the flat surfaces together. Place them at the two parallel ends of the twelve stick surface such that they act as fillers between the two parallel surfaces. This will close the sides of the letter rack and also make it a robust structure.
- Make an upside down V-shape with two sticks and glue the ends to the top free end of your rack.
- Paint the letter rack with attractive colors or even sticking tattoos or stickers onto it can give it a distinct look.
- Make a ribbon flower and stick it on your rack to give it a decorative look.
A little variation in the size of these structure can give way to other attractive articles like recipe card holder or visiting card holder etc. These are good projects of woodworking for beginners to implement.

Special care should be taken as your kids work with the tools used in the arts and crafts projects. The seriousness of the injuries that these tools can imbibe should be conveyed to the kids without scaring them off. They need to understand that the tools being used are not play tools but real ones. High power drilling machines shouldn't be used. Kids too young to have a stable hand must not be allowed to handle the drill or at least a parent could hold their hands initially while they are handling it. Kids should be made to use gloves and put on safety glasses for protection. It is advisable to keep a first aid kit nearby lest some injuries take place.
A lot of ready-made plans for woodworking projects for kids are available on the internet. There are a lot of books and magazines too which deal with woodworking for kids.
