Woodworking Plans for Toys
One of the most important tips to remember before beginning any wood projects for kids is to involve kids in all the activities: right from planning what to make, collecting the raw material to the final painting and decoration. These woodworking plans are designed using minimal tools for kids' safety!
Wooden Toy Box
- Cut the plywood according to the required dimensions. Large ones for the front, the back, the top and the bottom; while two smaller pieces for both the sides.
- Now lay the bottom board and hold the front piece and nail it with a 2 inch screw. Follow the same procedure with the back piece. Next place the sides with the help of screws from three sides.
- Hold the top piece over the box; attach the safety hinges to the back and the top or the lid of the box. Attach a handle on the top of the lid.
- All the screw holes should be filled with wood putty and the entire box should be sanded to smoothen it.
- Your wooden toy box is ready. You can decorate it by painting or attaching crafts to it.
- Make a rough sketch on a paper of the puzzle that you are going to make.
- You can either draw a single picture of a person, an animal, a car, etc. as a puzzle. Draw the picture on the plywood. You can ask the kids to paint it.
- Now cut the plywood into rectangular, triangular or square pieces with the help of a cutter.
- Your puzzle is ready! As a fun activity, you can ask the children to redo it!
- You can also make another puzzle by drawing another picture at the back of this plywood. Join all the pieces to get a smooth surface at the back, draw a picture, jumble the pieces and ask the children to solve the puzzle!
- Cut the scraps of wood in desired shapes. You can either cut them all in square shape with similar dimensions or go for different shapes like stars, squares, triangles, rectangles, etc.
- Now sand the corners of the wood with the help of a sandpaper until smooth.
- Your wooden blocks are ready. You can paint them with different colors and draw alphabets or numbers on them.
- The painting and decoration can be done as a fun activity and the children will simply love to get involved!
