Women and Self Esteem
So, what if you don't want to overeat and gain a bunch of weight this holiday season? What if you want to follow your healthy food plan and not be swept away in the tide of holiday foods? Here are 7 Helpful Tips to keep you centered and balanced as you enjoy the holidays your way.
Sugar cookies, eggnog, fruit cake, chocolate, decadent desserts, wine, mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, butter, whipped cream, nuts...did I mention chocolate?
This is the season of the feasts. This is the season of excess.
Are you worried that you are going to overindulge in all the holiday food that shows up everywhere this time of the year? Are you already stressed about the weight you are doomed to gain? Are you already making your New Year's Resolutions? Did you get into trouble last year?
What Do You Want? What Do You Really Want?
If you are not really willing to say "no, thank-you" to the specialty foods this holiday season, then by all means, enjoy yourself, and enjoy the season. As long as you are willing to accept any consequences, you will be moving through the season with your eyes open... good on you..
BUT... if you really do not want to get swept away in the tide of overeating this holiday season, you need to know that you don't have to...
You DON'T have to restrict and punish yourself either... You can love and respect your self with each choice you make... It is alllll about perspective.
Here are 7 Tips to Stay Centered This Year.
Commit to a food plan that is self-loving, self-respectful and is in alignment with the care you deserve. This is not about denying and restricting your self, this is about loving and caring for your self.
What are your usual commitments around the way you eat? If you have a food plan that you live by throughout the year, now is the time to review your reasons for your plan, your goals, your successes, your challenges. Spend time in the positive mindset of why you have a food plan to begin with.
Lay out the types of food situations you are likely to encounter. Are you attending any staff parties, any potlucks, family dinners, and get-togethers?
Plan for the events. What is your goal for your food plan? What would you like to eat at a potluck? Everything...? Create your list of preferred food types. Be specific.
Make a commitment to the types of food you have in your home. Make a plan. If you do not want to eat desserts... then don't make them, don't buy them, and send them away with friends if they happen to show up...
Know that it is ok to choose not to participate. Your family and friends will still love you if you say "no, thank-you" to very special dessert they only make once a year. You will survive not eating it.
Set your self up for success. If you feel that you will be left out or missing out, then you need to rework your plan. Any plan that is based on denying your self is going to feel punitive. You don't want that. You want self-loving.
Here's the thing... Live your life with your eyes wide open. If you are prepared to pay the ticket price of your actions... go for it... If you need to make a change in your behavior, then you need to change your perspective.
Go for Feeling Good... it works every time...
