Women and Self Esteem: Stop Criticizing Your Self. 3 Changes to Make
I am constantly amazed by the difference in the way women treat their best friends and the way they treat themselves. They don't point all of their friend's shortcomings because they naturally want to build their friends up, and help them along... To themselves... well... many times that is another story...
Let's start with some hard questions:
What kind of best friend are you to you?
How would you rate your unconditional support of yourself?
Can you say that you completely accept and approve of yourself?
Do those words flow easily and resonate deeply within you?
Or, do they stick in your throat?
I know that you would do anything for your friends. You celebrate their successes and support them when they are troubled. Am I right? Why them and not you?
If you were as hard on your friends as you are on yourself, how many would you have? No one likes to be criticized.
If you talked to a little girl the way you talk to yourself, would she leave feeling valued and smart and important? Or would she leave with her head down, feeling bad?
I ask these questions, but I have a pretty good idea what your answers will be. I talk to many women, and this keeps coming up. There is an underlying belief in most women that for whatever reason, you don't measure up.
Not good enough, not lovable, not smart, not beautiful, not worth the trouble, won't succeed, not deserving.... believe me, I am wincing as I type these words...
Here are 3 Changes to Make to Become Your Own Best Friend.
1. Put away the inventory of your shortcomings and create one of your great qualities.
If this seems like a difficult exercise, it means you really need to do it. You can start by making a list of what your friends like about you. If you don't know, for goodness sakes, ask them. They will tell you.
Once you have a positive and empowering list of your redeeming qualities, spend your time thinking about them. Take your focus off of what you don't like about yourself and put it on what you do like about yourself.
2. Stop minimizing yourself
See yourself as a work in progress. Everyone has improvements to make. Change your perspective from not being acceptable as you are, to a perspective of moving and growing and changing.
Refuse to make negative statements about yourself. Decide that you will not look in a mirror without saying something about your potential and your commitment to self-acceptance.
3. Stop talking about your problems
When you talk about your problems, you stay stuck in problem gear, the Law of Attraction will read your negative vibrations and give you more to find problems with.
Start talking about your potential, your dreams, your goals, what you like, what you want, and your inspired ideas. The Law of Attraction will read your positive vibration and give you more to feel good about.
Here is the thing... if you are a better friend to others than you are to yourself, then your friendship is not healthy. You can't give what you don't have.
You really do need to start with yourself and then move outward like ripples in a pond.
Remember, it's progress, not perfection. Just start with these 3 simple changes, and watch your world change for the better. You are so worth it! Namaste.
