Women and Self Esteem: Steps to a Long, Healthy Life
Do you constantly put your self, your health and your happiness second to the needs of others? Have you really made the connection between your current lifestyle choices and your quality of life and lifespan itself? Here are 6 Simple and Gentle Ways to honor your self and live a long and healthy life.
You are unique and unrepeatable.
Do you treat yourself with honor, respect, love and care?
Are you your own best friend?
Do you take excellent care of you?
If you are not thrilled by the way you answered these questions, you are not alone. Women have a tendency to put others first, accepting the leftovers for themselves.
It's ok. Taking care of yourself doesn't have to create huge waves in your day-to-day activities of tending to family, careers, lifestyle etc.
Here are 6 Simple and Gentle Ways to Honor Yourself
You MUST look after your health. This is non-negotiable
If a long healthy lifespan is part of your vision, you must take care of your health. If you have been avoiding this (the mammograms, paps, blood tests etc), ask for support as you become proactive. This is crucial to how long you live and how healthy you are as you age.
Commit to Improved Food Choices
We live in a culture that promotes quick and easy over healthy. Explore ways to step back and adopt a more natural food plan. Make meals a time to gather with the family, to affirm that you are important enough to put effort and time into the fuel for your body.
Recharge your batteries. Get adequate rest
It always amazes me how many women are operating at well below optimum simply because they are exhausted all the time. If this is you, find something in your agenda that you can let go of in order to get an extra hour sleep, take an afternoon nap. I call it my "horizontal cellular regenerative procedure".
Make time to do your inner work
Living on the surface of life is a poor substitute for the treasures to be found exploring and reflecting on your inner world. Don't let the mundane world keep you so busy that you "can't" find time for you.
Take care of your emotional health
Most women have "issues and baggage" to work through. Know what emotional health means to you. Do what you need to do to make peace with your life, with all the players in it. Free yourself of the weight of unresolved "stuff". Travel light.
Establish a solid relationship with your Higher Power
I saved the best for the last. Spiritual Enlightenment is the highest vibration you can emit. The most fulfilled women I know, state that this is the #1 most important relationship in their life. It gives purpose and meaning. It fills one with faith, hope and trust. Knowing that there is something greater than yourself gives you a reason to expand. It just doesn't get any better than that.
It's all about you my friend
You are here to claim and celebrate the gifts you have been given. Cultivate your attitude of self-care. Women who take care of and value themselves are better mothers, partners, sisters, friends, and employers/employees.
Following these basic and simple guidelines will create a framework for all the other aspects of your life. You are so worth the time and effort.
