Wizarding World of Harry Potter Set to Open in Spring
Universal Orlando will officially open the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park in the spring, hoping to immerse fans in a true Harry Potter experience.
With Disney World right around the corner, Universal has always had to think creatively to engage park visitors who would otherwise drift toward the unrelenting pull of Disney. But now Universal has exclusive rights to perhaps the most intriguing entertainment franchise of the last 20 years. Harry Potter has made J.K. Rowling the world's richest author and the world's richest woman and she has decided that Universal is a better fit to create a realistic Harry Potter experience.
There are at least 3 major rides in Wizarding World, each following specific events of the Harry Potter books and movies. The park is small by theme park standards, only 20 acres of Universal's expansive property. Fans are hoping that the smaller park will mean that the intensity of the experience will only be increased.
Early reviews are very positive and it seems that Universal has struck the right chords in attracting its core Potter audience. After the park officially launches in the spring, it will be tested against an onslaught of early visitors and those that have traveled far for the experience. If it holds up under that type of scrutiny, then it's a safe bet that the park will enjoy a successful run.
Timing for the park is also key, as it will be up and running as new movies are released that bring the Harry Potter saga to a close. Introducing new rides and attractions that follow the theatrical release of the movies may be a successful marketing strategy in the years to come.
