Witches history is unending. Some say that they have seen witches flying, while some say they are there for just amusement. Let's find out in this article.
Witches have been a topic of interest for many for centuries. They have been hated and feared especially in the Christian circles. For centuries around, there had been stories that we have been listening to. These stories may amuse some or for few, they may be the reason for their beliefs. One may think of Halloween witches when they hear the word 'witch'.

The Witch Story

History is witness to the existence of witches many centuries ago. Women were accused of being witches and possessing evil spirits. They were known to be in a close alliance with the devil and were known as their messengers. For women in those days, even a slightest of inhuman gesture would make them being called witches. What this resulted into was torturing and killing of thousands of women. Misogyny was seen evidently amongst witches. They were made to confess that they indulge in various demonic activities. They were made to agree of them flying in the sky, being engaged in black magic, being into sexual relations with the demon, turning into animals, and so on. There may still be a doubt that all of these women were really witches and had demonic variations!

To know more about them, let's look at few of the famous witches' names. Some may appear funny and humorous while few may make us believe.
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer Is the name of the famous movie witch, starred in the 'Twilight' saga.
  • Elvira Is the Halloween witch that comes once a year.
  • Sam She is the witch from the TV show Bewitched. She would wrinkle her nose and cause chaos and turmoil.
  • Blair Witch Another famous witch from the movie 'The Blair Witch Project'. A cross between Blair Underwood and a Salem witch trials.
  • Marie Laveau Is the voodoo queen of New Orleans.
  • Glinda She is the good witch of the North in opposition to the other bad witch of the south.
  • Baba Yaga She was a legendary witch who was believed to roast children and served them as dinner.
  • Witches of Eastwick It is a name of one witch who cloned to multiple herself.
  • Sabrina Another famous witch on a TV show, was a kind of mischievous witch.
  • Elizabeth Sawyer She is also known as 'Witch of Edmonton'. She was accused of bewitching people when they refused to buy her brooms. She was executed later.
  • Elphaba She is the witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz movie.
  • Isobel Goldie She was considered to have wild sex with the devil who brought her to the witchcraft.
  • Florence Newton Known as 'The Witch of Youghal' in Ireland. She was accused of casting spells on people who caused them to have fits and later die.
The word 'witch' is said to have been derived from an old English word 'wicca', which was used for female members of an ancient pagan tradition who practiced witchcraft. They were prominent in the history of witchcraft. The portrayal of these witches in those times of witches, were shown in a very creative way. Generically, they were shown in behavior opposite to that of the Christian community. The anti-sexuality theory of the Christians preached during those times saw the witch leagues connecting with sexuality and carnal lust. They were accused of getting all stripped and had all of their body hair shaved of and then pricked.

Witches history is as long as the history of the human beings. There have been many and are still in abundance. They are there to challenge the existence of good vs evil, in the world we have been living. For few, they have always been those stories which amuse.
