Winter X Games 2011

More than 200 extreme sports athletes are participating in Winter X Games 2011 which are being held in Aspen, Colorado. Given below is a short write-up on this sporting event with special emphasis on 2011 Winter X Games schedule.
If you boast of being a fan of extreme sports, you don't really need an introduction to ESPN Winter X Games - which are all about snow skiing, snowmobiling and snowboarding. The 2011 edition of the games - WX15, is being held in Aspen, Colorado, wherein hundreds of athletes from different parts of the world are competing for the prestigious Winter X Games gold, silver and bronze medals. This year, the Games began on 27th January and the closing ceremony is scheduled for 30th January - a four day long extravaganza wherein you get to see gravity defying stunts that you must have never seen before.

Winter X Games

A commercial sporting event wherein the focus is on extreme sports - Winter X Games are organized by ESPN - one of the pioneers in the world of sports broadcasting, in the United States of America in January or February. While this is the winter version of X Games, its summer season version - the Summer X Games, are held in July in the United States. Winter X Games were held for the first time at Mountain Resort in Big Bear Lake, California, in 1997. Since then the popularity of this sporting event has increased manifolds. After being held at Crested Butte Mountain Resort (Colorado) and Mount Snow (Vermont) for two years each, the Games venue was shifted to Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado, in 2002 - where they are held even today.
