Win and Conquer with the Help of these Amazing Softball Drills

As we all know, softball is one of the most popular sports all over the world. As a matter of fact, this sport is included in the most prestigious Olympic Games. So this is really considered as a very serious game that is full of fun and enjoyment.

A lot of teams have been aiming to win. Every team has this great thirst for victory. In order to do this, players really have to work hard. One of the things that each softball team is doing is to have continuous softball drills.

Any softball coach would agree if I say that softball drills are one of the major keys to win in a softball game. It is during these drills that the basic skills in softball are practiced and perfected. These basic skills are hitting, pitching, and running. Pitching is considered as one of the most important skills because if a team has a great pitcher then there will be a large possibility that the team will win. A great hitter of the opponent team will be useless if your team has an excellent pitcher.

Pitching is a skill that needs to be learned. It is not a skill that a person will have once he is born. It will certainly take a long time, effort, and commitment for a person to be called a great pitcher. If you are a coach, you really need to do everything to help your team to practice their skills in pitching. You must introduce some softball drills so that your players will be trained. Here are some of the softball drills for pitching that you can apply on your team:

Dry Pitching. The pitcher must start with the usual pitching position. Long step forward and then stride foot in front of pivot foot. Long step forward and then stride foot in front of pivot foot. After this, the player must continuously pitch his arm in full circles. Teach him to aim the rounding circles with his target and his arms must be close to his head at top. The player must make sure that his arms meet his hips at the point of release on each repetition. The goal of this drill is to promote the coordination between the arms and the hip.

Football toss. This softball pitching drill is aiming to improve the proper rise-ball release. In order to do this, as a coach you must instruct the pitcher to throw a junior-sized football to his partner. He must hold the ball at the seam with all of his fingers and then his thumb must be on the opposite side. See to it that the ball is on a spiral position.

Static Pitching. In this drill, the pitcher must throw the ball to the catcher who is already in his position. You must do some estimates because the pitcher must at least be 8 to 10 meters away from the catcher. The ball must be thrown in a windmill motion but see to it that the pitcher’s feet remain steady on the ground. Add some speed as the drill goes on. This will develop the upper body rotation.
