Why this Affiliates Home Business is Starting to Take Off

Let me start out by saying that I used to believe that every home affiliate business was the same. I used to believe a lot of things when I first started out in this business. Then I found out that I didn’t know what I was talking about because I was just starting out.

Then I had a series of revelations. The first was that, even though I was starting to learn some things because I had been working hard at this for a couple of months, I needed to admit that I still knew very little. I realized that even if I continued to work my butt off for a really long time, if I didn’t have direction and purpose, I wouldn’t succeed. In other words, I needed to learn from someone who really knew what they were talking about.

Another revelation I had was, everything is not a scam. I went from trusting everything out here, to trusting no one. The truth is that, while it is buyer beware, I didn’t know much, so even the greatest marketing tools or programs wouldn’t help me if I didn’t know what to do with them.

In this same vein, I realized that some of the things I thought to be scams, were really good opportunities, but again, I didn’t know what to do with them. Some things can, if utilized correctly, bring you profits. The problem with many programs is, they don’t tell you how to actually make the money. The scam is not necessarily in the program, but in the misinformation about how it may really take some know how to make it work.

When I first started out, I made the mistake of spending a couple thousand dollars on a company that was simply going to show me how to market successfully. This may have been a legitimate opportunity. However, I made the mistake of not doing my research. They first quoted me some other ridiculously high numbers, so when I heard I could get in for two thousand, I jumped in. I mean, they made it seem like it was just a formality that I would be making six figures. Of course I’ve found out the hard way, that this is not true.

What I’ve learned since my early days of internet marketing, is that this is not a race. If I focus on the money before it’s time to, I will not be focusing on what comes before the money. The know how. When you learn how to earn, you don’t simply gain the knowledge, but you also gain the all important belief that you can do this. I don’t know about you, but I came from a thirty year background of being a follower in the workplace. I was not my own boss. I was a small cog in the machine of whatever company I worked for. What I was supposed to do was all laid out for me.

Out here, it’s totally different. I’m my own boss, but that also brings a lot of new responsibilities. It is wonderful once you start succeeding, but, until you do, it takes a new found discipline to make it work.
