Why Singles Are Choosing Careers Over Romance

Nowadays the dating field has changed and many singles are choosing careers over love. Women are not putting careers on hold because of the love they have for their boyfriends. This was a common practice a few years ago which was seen as a sacrifice for their families. They might not break up with their boyfriends but they pursue their careers and education as if there were no boyfriends. In the yester years a lover would not leave her sweetheart in one country or state and move to another for education or job-related purposes. It is hard to put a foot in once career and leave unscathed. There has been a stereotype where men focus on career goals while women on the other hand concentrate on their families and romance.

In a scientific journal known as gender issues men are more willing to sacrifice careers for the sake of love but women are more stubborn. Researchers asked singles to state their personal goals and 90% of them prioritized financial success, careers and education. They rarely thought about love, romance, relationships, marriage and children. This shows that achieved goals are nowadays overriding relationship goals. Adam Turner refused to sacrifice three days to see his girlfriend who had come visiting him in campus. He wanted to spend as much time with her as possible but he could not stand missing classes. He was preparing for a test and he said his relationship always come second after his aviation flight management course. He explained it was well worth it because he passed all the tests.

The changing dynamics mostly involve the workplace where young people are under so much pressure to perform. This makes the young people who are mostly singles to opt for work over romance. The effect on career on family and that one of love on family are completely different. Good careers influence families in a positive way since good careers equals’ good money which translates to comfortable lives. Love influences a family in a positive way but only if there is money. If for instance a family has love and poor careers which make them broke, they usually experience a lot of financial wrangles. This dilutes love leading to poor quality families. This might be the reason why many singles even who hope to settle down some day are putting career as their first priority.

To many singles, starting off their lives with love and romance is like inviting children into their lives before they advance their careers. A family with children is more likely to have their careers disrupted. This is why career-oriented singles are putting families on hold. However there is time pressure for them to establish the goals because no one wants to start a family at a late age. The solidification of this new trend is mostly because of the family economics. A family that has dual income is more successful than one where only one partner earns. Singles want to have better lives than their parents and that is why they are more careful with careers.
