Why Marble is So Wonderful as Flooring in Your Home

There aren't many materials more luxurious than marble. If you're looking for that "wow factor" you should consider marble flooring.
Going by the dictionary's description of marble you will find that it's a hard, crystalline metamorphic limestone. Not very inspiring is it? But who would have thought that this same material can be polished and smoothed to create a beautiful and luxurious flooring material.

Brief History of Marble

The Ancient Romans sure had a taste for fine living and used marble in their bathrooms. The walls, floors and ceilings were covered in this material. Although we don't go quite so crazy with marble today, it was undoubtedly very popular in ancient times. However, turning a bathroom into a small version of those ancient bathhouses can be easily done and affordable.

What are the Benefits of Marble Flooring?

Not only is marble beautiful to look at it, it also has a number of benefits. There is a vast variety of colours to choose from so will work with any colour-scheme. The colours can be light and airy to deep and rich.

And like other hard flooring surfaces, marble is ideal for allergy sufferers because it doesn't hold allergens. Then there is the "aw" effect. The guests that enter your home will be taken back by the beauty of your marble floors.

Whenever you install natural materials in your home the appeal and value will increase. If you were a buyer, what would you prefer: tatty old vinyl or stunning marble?

Cost of Marble Flooring

Of course, if you want to increase the value of your home you need to ask yourself if the costs are worth it. Is the value of your home going to increase enough to justify the cost?

In the case of installing marble, whether on the counter tops or floor, it will increase the value of your home. You will find that marble can be expensive with the price of the tiles alone ranging from $3-$10 or more. Luckily it has been found that when money is spent in the kitchen and bathrooms of homes, the cost can be fully recouped if the home is then sold.

Caring for Marble Flooring

It is certainly a beautiful material and you do need to look after it to keep it that way. Make sure you treat it with respect and don't clean it with harsh abrasive cleaners or brushes. A damp rag will do the trick for wiping off the dirt. Be sure to remove any large pieces of debris that may scratch the surface.

Marble floors also need to be resealed depending on how much use it gets. You may need to re-seal it every year in high-traffic areas. This will help prolong the life of the floor. When your marble floor becomes dull, having it buffed will bring it back to life.
