Why Dogs Dig and How to Train

Teach your dog to stop digging and learn what is behind dogs and digging.
It is very common for dogs to dig in the ground. There are certain breeds that dig more than others, but it is just a trait of a canine. At times there are reasons for a dog to dig that should also be looked into as well. Example one, dogs mostly dig to burrow themselves in the dirt to cool themselves off temperature wise. This is hardly a factor worth yelling at a dog for in my mind. Second biggest reason though is just digging for fun.

A big no no while teaching your dog not to dig in the yard is to garden around the canine. Gardening is basically your dog seeing you play in the dirt, so now why can't the dog?.. This seems to simple to be true, but it is VERY TRUE. Another not to do, is just freak out with loud noises and shouts.

Things like this sometimes excite dogs and will make them want to dig when there bored to get some excitement coming their way. Lastly, we need to realize that some dogs are just diggers and it is what they are going to do no matter what. So instead of of screaming your head off day after day, maybe just set aside a digging spot for the dog.

Make him know where it is, and let him know it is fine for him to dig there. Dig with him to show him it is fine. Still be obedient with him outside of his personal digging grounds though. Sometimes we have to come to an agreement with some animals because they will just never stop their instincts.
