Why Do We Need Minerals

Minerals are essential to life, yet all too often people forget, or simply don’t realize how extremely important minerals are. Minerals and trace minerals have a tremendous impact on the body, and when these mineral become deficient, for whatever reason, it can cause your body to do a total tail spin. Minerals are as important to the human body as breathing; without the proper amount of minerals our body would cease to function properly, and if the deficiency is severe enough it can and will result in death.

What most people don’t understand is that minerals have an effect on nearly every single function in the body. One of these key actions is to act as a reactor to many essential vitamins and nutrients. In other words you can take vitamins every day but, if you are not taking the correct minerals to bind with the vitamins they will simply get excreted and not used properly by the body; leaving you vitamin and mineral deficient. A perfect example of this is vitamin D and calcium; when you take either of these the other is needed to allow the body to absorb the nutrient properly. Calcium is also needed to react with vitamin C to aid in absorption.

However, the list does not stop there, Zinc is essential to the absorption of vitamin A, Magnesium for all B vitamins, and selenium for vitamin E. The list goes on and on. But, minerals play yet another role in our bodies, they are not simply bound to reacting with their vitamin counter parts, they have a tremendous effect on several of our organs, as well as our blood, tissue, and cells. Maintaining a harmonious balance inside the body is crucial to proper function; minerals are responsible for keeping certain parts of the body alkaline and certain parts of the body acidic. If this critical balance of alkaline and acidity gets thrown off, even in the slightest, it can cause a chaos in the body known as metabolic imbalance, and this condition can lead to several other life threatening conditions.

To keep your body functioning at top pace it is extremely important to supplement these minerals… because we rarely eat properly enough to receive all our recommended daily percentages of minerals. Also keep in mind that you lose minerals daily through normal everyday actions such as sweating and urinating. This is why supplementing is so very important, if you don’t replace the lost minerals eventually you will run short and become sick. Prevention is always the first step in a healthy direction!
