-April’s POV-

I was dead and I was in heaven. I heard a sweet voice, and I could feel finger tips running across my face. I thought it was an angel. If this is what death is, then I’d rather be dead then alive. I opened my eyes and saw an angelic face inches away from me. But he was crying. Why was he crying?

I was worried. I lifted my arm to touch his face but my arm felt like it weighed a ton. I tried to sit up, but it was too painful. My head started to spin. I quickly lied back down, trying to breathe evenly.

"Where am I? Am I dead?" I croaked.

-OLD Ryan’s POV-

"Where am I? Am I dead?" Her voice was distorted.

"I’m so sorry, April. I’m so sorry…I was stupid. I’m so sorry." I took her hands and kissed them.

"It’s okay…but who are you?" She sounded confused.

"I-it’s m-me, Ryan. Don’t you remember me?"

"No…should I remember you?"

I dropped her hands. I suddenly felt cold and numb. I walked out of the room.

-Benny’s POV-

"April…Y-you don’t remember Ryan? Do you remember me, then?" I couldn’t believe this.

"Yeah, of course. You’re my Benny!" She grinned crookedly. "But who’s Ryan? And what happened, Benny?"

"Y-you go-got in to a car accident. You had to go through surgery. I thought I was going to lose you…" I whispered. "Wait, here. I’m going to get the doctors."

I ran to the surgeon. We took an x-ray and everything seemed to be fine.

"Then why can’t she remember Ryan?!!" I yelled.

The doctor sighed. "I really don’t know. I can’t figure it out."

"What do you mean?! YOU’RE THE DOCTOR!!" I was furious.

"This doesn’t have to be permanent. It could be temporary. Give her some time to recover. Maybe she’ll remember again. In the mean time, you should try to bring the memories with her and Ryan back.
That’s the best you can do. I’m sorry." He shook his head and walked out.

-Ryan’s POV-

This was all my fault. If I never left her, this wouldn’t have happened.
April doesn’t remember who I am…She broke three ribs. She twisted her leg. She cracked her head open. She went through a surgery all because of me.

I thought this was my punishment. I left her. Now she doesn’t remember me. I fell onto the floor, not caring that the nurses were staring.

-April’s POV-

Who was this Ryan kid? Why did he look so familiar? And why was he always trying to take care of me?

Throughout my stay at the hospital, he looked after me with Benny like he was my mom or something. My mom visited from time to time, but she would much rather take care of the family business then her own daughter.

Every day, I felt better. But I always had this nagging thing in the back of my mind that told me I needed to remember something, and I knew it was big. It bothered me a lot, especially when I was around Ryan.

After a month I was finally allowed to go home. I had to catch up A LOT of homework for school. But it was okay, because Benny and that Ryan kid helped.

Today was Saturday and I decided to go to the beach. Ryan and Benny helped me and stayed with me the whole time.

After some time, Benny had to leave. Things were always awkward when Benny left me and Ryan alone. Ryan always looked sad and glum when he was around me.

"So…"

He sighed and looked up at me through his eye lashes. He really was beautiful.

"Do you really not remember who I am, love?" He asked. His voice was soft and I could hear the hurt behind it.

"No…I’m sorry…" I murmured.

Right then, little drops of rain started to fall. It left dark spots on the sand. The cool water felt good on my skin.

Ryan sighed yet again and shook his head. "It’s not your fault…" He took my hand and walked me back to my house. Strangely, this felt right.

That night I had a night mare.

I was at the airport, but I had no idea why. Ryan was walking away from me with a suit case, and no matter how much I ran and yelled his name he wouldn’t look back. I woke up crying. Even though it was the first time I had this night mare, it was strangely familiar. Like a de-ja-vu.

I knew everyone was waiting for me to remember who Ryan was, but I really couldn’t! I wanted to so badly but it didn’t happen.
When I was around Ryan, I kept on having these flash backs. They weren’t clear enough for me to remember who Ryan was, though. It irked me…

How come I can remember everything else except Ryan? I felt like I was missing something big, something important. As if I was missing a part of my heart.

-Ryan's POV-

Time started to pass, and yet she still didn't remember me. I started to doubt love.

"If you really loved me, why can't you remember me?" These kind of thoughts kept on running through my mind.

But when I see April, it disappears, because this love I feel for her is real, and if she really loved me before I know she will remember me...someday. Even if it takes a year, ten years, one hundred years, I'll be waiting for her. Until she remembers the time we spent together and the love we had for each other, I know I'll be here, because April meant the world to me Without her, my life is meaningless. Those few months I spent alone made me realize that without April, it was like I was missing a big chunk of me.

I will stay with her throughout my entire life, even if she never remembers who I am- I will stay by her side.

-BENNY'S POV-

I loved April. It was true, but I loved her enough to want her to remember who Ryan was to her- because that's when she was the happiest. I wanted her to be happy, even if it meant her being with another guy.

She was never mine, and she never will be. I knew that all too well.

The hole in my chest was still open. I still shed tears. I don't think that hole in my heart will ever be fixed completely.

What love can do to you is cruel. Love is like heaven, but it can hurt like hell.

"I hate to see the one I love happy with somebody else, but I surely hate it more to see
the one I love unhappy with me..."
