Why a BPO is Good for Your Business

Just what exactly is BPO or business process outsourcing? And how does it help you and your business?
Business process outsourcing or BPO is contracting the performance of specific non-core but essential business functions to an external service provider. The BPO provider will have full responsibility over processes like payroll processing, customer service, clerical duties, accounting and other similar functions that the company will delegate to them. The provider will have to perform these tasks according to certain standards of quality.

What drives the continued rise of this US154-billion industry, which is said to be growing at 10.9%? The global BPO market has been constantly expanding, not just in terms of revenue, but also in terms of services being added to the list of processes that may be outsourced. More and more countries are also opening up their shores and manpower to the BPO industry.

Most people think that the biggest consideration in BPO is the cost savings. The savings from the salary and benefits that would have been paid an in-house employee could be used by the company and pass it on to customers. Enabling the company to lower the prices of its goods and services. They can also use the savings to spend on other things.

But cost savings is not the be-all and end-all of the advantages of BPOs. What most companies gain is the flexibility that business process outsourcing service providers can give them. For one, most BPO vendors charge on a fee-for-service basis. The outsourced tasks are therefore classified as a variable cost, not as a fixed cost by the company. You only pay for the level of service you need, when you need it.

Most businesses also find that they can grow faster when they contract a BPO. For instance, you would only have to contact a BPO provider if you want to set up a call center to better service your customers. That company will no longer worry about capital expenditures for furniture, personnel and equipment. The company will also be rid of having to look, hire and train call center employees. In effect, the company now has experienced agents in an instant. They do so at only a fraction of the cost of setting up their own call center.

BPO providers also lets you focus on your core business. With administrative and non-core processes out of the way, your managers can focus their energies on training your people, closing important business deals, research and development and other areas that directly affect the bottom line.

Common business sense, however, dictates that a company should choose their BPO provider well. You just cannot trust just anybody with your business and your company. Always ask around for recommendations and go with someone you can trust. Lastly, always go for the BPO provider that can give you excellent and quality service at the best rates!
