Who is Kit Rae?

Kit Rae, one of the master sword makers of our generation, has a variety of things that have influenced his craft.
Kit Rae, born in Ontario, Canada in 1966, is one of the premier sword makers working in the business today. In 1996, he won the prestigious Blade Magazine Award. In addition to designing some of the most impressive and recognizable fantasy daggers and swords of all time, he is also a writer and an artist who has found ways to combine all of his passions.

For more than fifteen years, Rae was the lead designer for United Cutlery, one of the most trusted names in blades, whether they are knives, swords, or axes. Besides United Cutlery, Rae has designed blades for Harley Davidson, Colt, and others. He makes blades that are both functional and fantastic. He is also the mastermind behind some of the most impressive and wicked looking blades to grace television and movie screens. Some of his work can be seen in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files, and in movies such as The Chronicles of Riddick and Spiderman 2.

Many collectors of replica weapons from a number of different movies will note that Kit Rae lead the design teams that made those replicas for the fans to purchase. Perhaps he is most known for his own fantasy dagger and sword designs. In fact, Rae created an entire world, one that has enough depth to rival most fantasy novelists today. In this world, Ammon, he details a rich history that encompasses thousands of years and the creation of magical swords that can change the fate of the world for good or for evil. Along with the swords, daggers, axes, and knives that Rae creates for the stories, he also designs them as real world weapons for collectors of blades. He includes the story of the blade as well as an art print with most of the weapons sold.

When it comes to his artistic styling, Rae’s work is varied; yet, the pieces still seem to center on the fantastic. Among his known influences are H.R. Giger, Boris Vallejo, and Michael Whelan. Whatever type of blade Kit Rae designs, and whatever picture he paints, folks can be sure that it will be something memorable and it will be unlike anything they have ever seen. It is this ability to always stay fresh combined with marketing savvy that has helped him remain one of the best-known and most beloved weapon designers of the last few decades
