Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, born on the 15th December 1832, was the mastermind behind the design of this Paris monuments. He got his first break in 1877, when he built a 160 m (525 ft) long bridge known as the "Ponte Maria Pia" for the railways. He then designed another great railway bridge in 1884 called the "Garabit viaduct" and was 565 m (1,854 ft). In 1885, he designed the Statue of Liberty and then proposed to build the Eiffel Tower, which was accepted, and the construction began in 1887. He always calculated every piece of construction with accurate mathematics and physics, which he used to make this remarkable achievement of his life.
