WHMIS Labels
WHMIS Labels are an important addition to the promotion of safety within the Canadian workplace.
WHMIS is a worker safety program designed in Canada to help promote the proper labeling of hazardous goods within the workplace. WHMIS came into play when there was an agreement between the federal, provincial and territorial government to promote safety in the workplace. There are many different types of WHMIS labels.
The WHMIS program was created to help reduce death rates of workers on the job in addition to lowering the total of work related accidents at work. The Canadian government at all three levels, federal, provincial and territorial, made this agreement to help drive down the death and accident rates in the country. It is therefore a requirement to have labels on anything that could be deemed dangerous to the employees.
WHMIS labels are an important part of the WHMIS program. There are so many labels that are out there to warn you of different potential health hazards. One of the most easily recognizable WHMIS labels that are out there is the fire hazard label that boasts a symbol of flames. Another one is the one that
features a skull and bones and that signifies a material that contains toxic filling. These labels are a necessity in making the WHMIS program successful. If there is not a label on a dangerous good then the employer could get into a lot of trouble for not complying with the law.
When you go to work you need to be guaranteed that you will be safe at all times. It is a right that you have as a Canadian employee. WHMIS was created to promote and ensure safety in the workplace. The labels that are created for WHMIS are there to benefit you and to keep you out of harm's way. Make sure you use caution and read in full the labels if there is a message on a device at work.
