Whitewash Paint

How to Make this Paint?
To create a small batch whitewash paint, mix 2 lbs. of lime powder and around 1 gallon of water together. The water activates the lime and the reaction starts to produce heat on its own, so you don't have to use boiling water for the whitewash recipe. Then mix thoroughly, and let the mixture sit for about 24 hours. Now, in another container mix 2 lbs of salt and 1 gallon of water, and set it aside. After the lime is ready, mix the salt mixture in it, the consistency of the final mixture will be very thick, and if want a thinner whitewash you can add some more water. Mix everything well, and let it sit for another 24 hours and then apply it to exterior house paint.

Additives Used
The above recipe of whitewash is an easy home improvement DIY project. And can be used to create a basic whitewash paint recipe, which is enough to do a good job. But, you can mix different additives to the recipe to create whitewash with different properties. You can mix other additives to the recipe. Additives like water glass, glue, salt, soap, milk, flour, earth, egg white and blood have been used in white wash paint recipe. Adding earth can help to create different shades of whitewash paint like cream, yellow, browns. Sometimes linseed oil is added, for the whitewash to adhere on difficult surfaces. Cement is added to create a harder wearing gray or white paint. Many times diluted glues are used to improve the toughness of the paint.

With a simple recipe, you can create whitewash and use it for painting various surfaces, but avoid it on interior walls as it will stick to your hands and body. But, one can use this inexpensive paint for exterior wall, and you can also apply whitewash paint on wood, for painting fences and other objects.
