Whispering Snakes
Did you hear that whisper? Eve heard the whisper and now you do, but to you the voice is not Satan but a demon.
"This isn't happening."
"Yes it is...." The snake like voice whispered.
I shook my head because of course this wasn't occurring. You didn't just hear voice whispering to you, did you?
I ran towards the top of the hill and came to a screeching halt as I overlooked the serene ocean below.
"Serene? You must see what it looks like below the surface."
Then I was hurtling towards the jagged stones and calming waves. How could I be falling at an unstoppable speed and still live? But I did live and I was able to kick towards the surface but was swiftly brought under again by the currents.
"Not-t..So...Serene?" The snake-like voice whispered.
The current dragged me deeper and deeper under and the feeling of panic set in. Why was I not dead already? No human could breathe underwater, or was I even living still.
"You're still alive..." The snake-like voice whispered.
Bubbles escaped my mouth as I attempted to shout an answer back but instead air filled my lungs.
It felt like sandpaper was being dragged against my throat and I immediately closed my mouth to stop the pervasive feeling.
This is not happening. Then I felt it; Thump.. thump pause; Thump.. thump pause;
"CLEAR." White flashes of light blinded me as my body jerked upwards.
"More juice, CLEAR."
Another electric shock and then blankness on my back lying on a hospital bed would seem like the last place I would be.
Then the snake whispered again. "You were s..so close to death my dearest."
"Check her vitals."
I felt hands begin to touch me for signs of life. "She's doing fine let's get some drugs into her. She has to be totally knocked out."
The nurses nodded and I was wheeled into the emergency room.
"So close to death."
I groaned as someone stuck a needle into my vain. Icy coldness seeped into my marrow and I felt the numbness spread like fiery ice thought my body. My breathing leveled out and I began to feel myself go still. I couldn't open my eyes and I couldn't sense anything around me.
"Death was upon you."
But I'm not dead you see!
"It was their and you will always remember me."
I shook my head mentally and the snake slithered away somewhere I couldn't reach.
"She's waking up."
Excited voice filled the room.
"Tali? Tali look up at me baby." Michael cupped her chin and she slowly opened her eyes.
"Michael...."
"You're alive for now..." The snake slithered back to the depths of hell and waited for the next car accident victim to fall into its slimy hands.
