Whipped Shea Butter for Skin
Ingredients
- 1 cup shea butter
- ¼ teaspoon essential oil
- 3 teaspoons jojoba oil
- ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil
- Take a double broiler and fill its lower part with water. Heat the water on a high flame till the water starts boiling rapidly.
- When this happens, reduce the heat into medium flame and put in the shea butter into the top portion of the double broiler. Make sure that the heat is not too high while melting the shea butter as this may reduce its nutritive content. It is also important to stir the shea butter occasionally when it is being heated in the broiler.
- Check the temperature of the shea butter while it is being melted. When the temperature of the shea butter reaches 175 degrees F, reduce the flame to low and continue heating for twenty more minutes. However, see to it that the temperature does not exceed beyond this.
- Once the shea butter is melted, pour it into a large mixing bowl. You should add vitamin E as well as jojoba oil into the mixing bowl at this stage.
- After this is done, start whisking the shea butter with a whisk attachment of your electric blender. It is important to whisk it for at least 5-7 minutes. After this, place the bowl in the freezer and allow it to stay there for 5-10 minutes.
- When you take the bowl out of the freezer, the shea butter will still be in the liquid form, but you will find that a film has formed on top of it. Then, you have to whisk the butter again in the way which is given above and then, place it in the freezer for 5-10 minutes. This process has to be repeated till you get the consistency of whipped cream.
- Once you get the correct texture, add the essential oil to it and mix till it is completely incorporated into the cream. It is also fine to add a little bit of pearlescent mica to give a little color to your shea butter at this stage. However, this step is optional and even if you do it, you should not add more than 1/16 of this powder.
